About this project
This collection of memories by long-term parish members is part of the celebration of St. Demetrios 60th Anniversary in 2019. It was directed by parishioner Manny Paraschos, professor emeritus of journalism at Emerson College, Boston, with help from local multimedia reporter/editor Leeza Arakelian.
The project was started in the fall of 2018, when a list of approximately two dozen early parish members was created with the help of Parish Presbyter Fr. Nicholas Krommydas and Peter Condakes, co-chair of the 60th Anniversary Celebration Committee. In the first few months of 2019 all those on the list, or their families, were contacted by e-mail or voice mail and interviews were conducted either at the church library, the residence of the interviewee or via Skype/FaceTime if they were out of the immediate area. Twenty two people were interviewed in the initial phase of the project.

Those interviewed were asked to bring or send any memorabilia from their family archives they thought might be useful in connecting current and future members with the parish's past. These remembrances can be found in the "Family Mementos" section of the site. Details about and photos of the original St. Demetrios church in Newton Lower Falls were found in the Newton Historical Society.
